Grade 1-2 students have continued to revisit different group dances to expand our dance step catalogue. Over the next few weeks, students will be re-choreographing such songs with their own dance steps.
In Grade 3, students are continuing to put their final touches on their scripts and have started rehearsing their performances. We are looking forward to piecing it all together over the following few weeks into two class plays. Starting next week, we hope that all Grade 4 students will commence creating their puppets! I am sure it will be a busy time with paper, cardboard, fabric, wool and thread flying around as we all get creative!

Hello everyone!
Performing Arts this year has started with students from Grade 1-4, I shall look forward to working with the Foundation, Grade 5 and 6 students during the second semester. All classes have commenced with discussing expectations and goals for their three Performing Arts roles – performer, classmate and audience member. There have been spectacular suggestions, I particularly liked: · “Be brave and have confidence” for Performer · “Appreciate all performances” as an Audience member and · “Have an open heart” as a classmate. Grade 1-2 students have being doing group dancing and choreographing some steps to well-known children’s songs. A touch of drama has struck Grade 3; they are working on developing a small group act to add into their class play. Grade 4 students are currently developing a script for Puppet shows based on well-known fairytales, children stories and television shows. Choir! Choir has started in a flurry of excitement! Due to the level of interest from the students, I have decided to have a Junior Choir for Grades 2-3 and a Senior Choir for Grades 4-6. Term 1 - rehearsal times are on Tuesdays: · Lunch 1-1:30pm for Junior Choir and · Session 6 2:40-3:20pm for Senior Choir. Choir students should have received song lyrics along with a website for their music on YouTube should they wish to do further work at home with parents’ permission. Next week, Tuesday 28th will be the final sessions for new students to join – so if your child is interested please encourage them to come along. Please stay tuned for when we will be performing at Assembly! This week myself and three of our Grade 6 Captains – Annie, Claudia and Ruby had the lucky job of watching the auditions for the TPPS Talent Show.
We were mesmerized, enchanted and thrilled by the various talents we got to witness throughout the school from Foundation to Grade 6. What struck us most was the courage that shone through with which these young people, who either nervously walked or boldly marched into the room and then just broke into their act in front of 4 judges – quite a confronting situation but one with which they all took on with poise! Such dare on display. It was fabulous! We were delighted with – singing, dancing, comedy acts, joke-telling, magic illusions, card tricks, acting skits, skipping, gymnastics, bottle-flipping, soccer skills and playing of musical instruments – piano, guitar, violin and bouzouki. Today the announcements of who has successful made it through to the finals happened – FOUNDATION Tijana Lily & Priscilla Charlotte & Annika Eva Arjonette GRADE 1 Lucas & Jamie Grace & Lucy Luke Maddi, Madi & Lily Daniella Kate Matisse Aryana Jack & James Aliya & Marli Kaylee & Mikayla GRADE 2 Josh, Hudson, Taiven & Ari Rihanna & Rihanna Ruby & Maddison Jemma GRADE 3 William Christian Shylah, Annie, Christina, Taryn, Moses & Josiah GRADE 4 Eleni, Charlotte & Raegan Abraham Maya Jasmine, Kara & Tianna Sisi, Chanel, Jade, Ava & Sarah Savi Theodore Ellie, Ella & Adelaide Melina GRADE 5 Allara, Olivia, Effie, Emily, Mia & Amy Jesse Annabel, Sarah, Sam & Isabella GRADE 6 Mia Julia, Lexy & Ruby Helia Jennah Holly Chelsea, Lana, Arabella & Sheridan Finals will take place in the School Hall on the following lunchtimes: Foundation to Grade 2 - Monday 28th November, Grade 3 & 4 - Tuesday 29th November and Grade 5 & 6 - Wednesday 30th November. School Choir auditions were held on Wednesday 12th and Monday 17th October, students then had a week to wait whilst Grade 4 students attended camp. So during week 4, 33 students found out that they were successful at the auditions and came along to commence the planning for our first arrangement we will be learning. Congratulations to all those students!!
Choir rehearsals are on Mondays during session 6 and most Tuesday lunchtimes. We are hoping to make our debut performance at Week 9 School Assembly - Wednesday 30th November. Term 4 the following units of work are underway –
Grade 3 and 3/4R are working on developing a character, looking at unique qualities to do with their voice, thinking, actions, personality, movement, appearance and designing the character’s costume. Grade 4 are creating their own band in small groups. They are researching what genre of music their band will play along with the type of instruments and vocals they’ll include in their song – an original or cover. Grade 5 have put forward a proposal to undertake a performing arts project. They have had to include a dance, drama and music element – many have proposed to create a movie featuring a dance to an original or altered song. It has been a fun term with each Grade 3 class working on a dance about Japan. Why Japan you may ask - to showcase what we may expect to see during Rio’s Closing Ceremony and the Opening ceremony from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Students discussed what elements Japan would want to show the world – Cherry Blossom Trees, Bullet trains, Mt Fuji, Sushi, Noodles, Karate, Sumo Wrestling and the new or returning sports in the 2020 games. Grade 4 students including 3/4R have been a delight to work with as each grade worked collaboratively with me to choreograph a class dance. They researched what they thought was important for Brazil to show the world during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, they then developed dance steps in small groups which were then used for the whole class dance. I have been most impressed with the enthusiasm and level of commitment shown by the students to do their best dance performance.
Grade 3 and 4 students came together on Wednesday 14th September, to share their dances with one another. It was a lot of fun and a great way to celebrate their learning in Performing Arts this term. This term the Olympic topic continued with Grade 5 students working on iMovies. We had movies about the Olympic torch lighting in Greece, the Olympic Torch relay, Olympic mascots, Cathy Freeman, Brazilian athletes, Team sports in Rio, Australian athletes medal history, Australian Men’s Basketball, BMX Racing and the commencement of the Modern Olympics to name a few. It was great to see the creativity of the students as they used skits, images, songs and videos to get their information and message across to their audience. I certainly have enjoyed the start to Term 3 – it has been great to see all the happy faces and commence working with the students in Grades 3 to 5. There definitely is a buzz building around school with all the work and chatter about the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio.
In Performing Arts the students have viewed different video snippets of the Sydney 2000 and London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremonies. Our discussions have focused on the country’s stories as told through the different images and dances viewed. We also questioned why the Opening Ceremony showcased these elements of the countries and what was its significance. Students were amazed by the elaborate sets and costumes, not to mention Nikki Webster flying over the stadium on the high wire. Over the next few weeks Grade 5 students will be creating movies in small groups with each grade working on a different country – Australia, Brazil and Greece and an aspect that links to the Olympic Games. Students in Grade 4 have researched Brazil and Rio de Janeiro with each grade getting an assigned topic – Carnival, Football, Brazilian wildlife and nature, Ipanema and Copacabana beaches. They will be working on creating a dance on the topic for a pseudo 2016 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. Grade 3 students have brainstormed what Japan would showcase during Rio’s Closing Ceremony to encourage the excitement for the 2020 Olympic Games. Drama Club is ticking along! We are looking for some assistance from our community, borrowing items for props and costumes.

Thank you for your support and help. Future and Hollywood Legends Foundation students have started playing the Boomwhackers – colourful, tuned percussion tubes. We are learning various songs that involve whacking the tubes as directed by the lyrics. They have also had fun working with the Grade 4 and 6 students who have visited in preparation for attending Kindergartens with me.
Grade 1 students are focusing on drama, with each grade working on a class play. Students are doing a wonderful job at reading their scripts and adding expression to their role. Grade Two students are continuing to impress with learning how to play the recorder. We are still working on mastering the following notes B, A and G, as played within different pieces of music. Students from Grade Six are busily planning their persuasive short movies. It will be a busy few weeks ahead to ensure the final products are completed! This week we had a visit to Deep Creek Preschool, the following students attended with Mr. Roberts and myself – Ruby, Kalise, Sarah and Ella. The students did a fantastic job and I hope they found the experience both fun and rewarding. Next week, we are off to Lower Templestowe Preschool! To our TPPS Community
