Foundation students have played various drama games with a partner that helped them to focus on their creative use of voice and favourite characters, a lot of Disney princesses and Superheroes made guest appearances. In small groups, Founders have now been creating freeze-frames where they have had to consider focus, space and levels. This has now extended into students miming scenes from fairytales.
Grade 1 students are focusing on creative movement, so they commenced with performing group dances - ‘Mexican Hat Dance’, ‘The Macarena’ and ‘The Nutbush’. They are now onto bush dancing, learning ‘The Galopede’ and ‘The Haymaker’s Jig’ that include such moves as do-si-do, spinning and swinging your partner – lots of fun! I am very impressed with the Grade Two students’ eagerness and excitement at learning how to play the recorder. They have started with learning the parts of the instrument by labeling a diagram of the recorder. They are now mastering the following notes B, A and G with one class working on a song ‘Hot Cross Buns’ (an oldie but a goodie). As they are undertaking the ‘Recorder Karate’ program, students are currently working towards earning their first belt – white. Students from Grade Six are creating a persuasive short movie this term. Groups are finalized, as are most topics which are covering a broad range – TPPS, Olympics, Charity organisations and social issues such as deforestation and puppy farms. I am looking forward to the final products! |
