The Foundation students’ excitedly greet me throughout the day, as I walk passed and ask enthusiastically “When are we coming to your room? Do we have Performing Arts today?” We have built upon our creative movement skills with students performing group dances, think ‘Chicken Dance’, ‘The Hokey Pokey’ and ‘The Nutbush’. We have then graduated into partner dancing – ‘The Evening Three Step’ and ‘The Pride of Erin’. It’s amazing to see how hard they have all tried when dancing with a partner and how diligently they stand on our dancing markers in the circle.
Grade One students have perfected their soundscapes of the four seasons and we recorded those the other week. Students work incorporated some very creative uses of musical instruments to represent the various components of the seasons shown in their videos. Grade Two students continued to add to their bush dancing repertoire and commenced line dancing, working on the ‘Dirty Cowboy’. They were very keen to learn ‘Hip Hop Cowboy’, I’m sure we will be boot scootin’ next week. Students from Grade Six have either commenced or finished recording their own version of an artist’s song. They have included different percussion sounds through the use of their voices, bodies or musical instruments.

The Foundation students’ enthusiasm for Performing Arts lessons has continued. They are keen to play the games learnt in previous sessions, especially performing various characters whilst wearing different hats and masks. This week they started to learn a bush dance ‘The Shearer’s Jig’.
Grade One students for the last two weeks have been working in small groups on soundscapes of the four seasons. We look forward to recording our instrumental performances soon. This week Grade Two students have revisited some bush dancing from last year and we will be adding to their repertoire in the upcoming weeks. Students from Grade Six are working in small groups to eventually perform and record their own version of an artist’s song or a variety of songs from different artists. They are working on including different percussion sounds through the use of their voices, bodies or musical instruments. The Foundation students eagerly commenced their Performing Arts lessons this week. It was lovely to hear and answer their innocent questions, “What do we do here? Why are we here? Where is Mrs. Conn/Mrs. Moschoyiannis/Mrs. Pettolino? Can we play the drums? The guitar?” and yes we have some very keen drummers amongst the group!
This week the students from Foundation to Grade 2 enjoyed some introductory games involving different elements from dance, drama and music whilst the Grade 6 students gave me some ideas and invaluable feedback on Performing Arts activities. |
