The Foundation students’ excitedly greet me throughout the day, as I walk passed and ask enthusiastically “When are we coming to your room? Do we have Performing Arts today?” We have built upon our creative movement skills with students performing group dances, think ‘Chicken Dance’, ‘The Hokey Pokey’ and ‘The Nutbush’. We have then graduated into partner dancing – ‘The Evening Three Step’ and ‘The Pride of Erin’. It’s amazing to see how hard they have all tried when dancing with a partner and how diligently they stand on our dancing markers in the circle.
Grade One students have perfected their soundscapes of the four seasons and we recorded those the other week. Students work incorporated some very creative uses of musical instruments to represent the various components of the seasons shown in their videos. Grade Two students continued to add to their bush dancing repertoire and commenced line dancing, working on the ‘Dirty Cowboy’. They were very keen to learn ‘Hip Hop Cowboy’, I’m sure we will be boot scootin’ next week. Students from Grade Six have either commenced or finished recording their own version of an artist’s song. They have included different percussion sounds through the use of their voices, bodies or musical instruments.
