Term 3, in reflection:
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the students from Grades 3 to 6 in Performing Arts this term. There has been individual work, small group exercises and whole class collaborative projects – it has been a lot of fun! After introductory activities and setting up of Performing Arts expectations, students have worked on the following areas: Grade 3 – playing recorder: focusing on correct breath technique and positioning on the tone holes. Learning the following notes A, B, C and G; and timing of quavers, crotchets, semibreves and rests. Grade 4 – processing drama: using different texts to explore and interpret different characters. Students have had to predict, synthesise and alter the story through small skits, freeze frames and mimes. Grade 5 – dance: focusing on making creative steps from everyday movements. Then using choreographic devices to piece the steps together. Grade 6 – African Drumming: learning how to play a base and tone. Playing Kpanlogo, a rhythm from Ghana, and learning the low, hi, breaks and echauffement parts. Although their favourite activity was playing ‘Uno’ on the drums. Over Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes, there have been two dance troupes. They have worked hard and been very committed to learning their dance. Thank you to all those girls. I shall look forward to working with them next term. Choir will re-commence in Term 4 with our rehearsing all being in preparation for our School Carols Concert in December. If students are interested, please come along on Monday, 8th October to the Performing Arts Room at lunchtime. Posters have been placed around the school announcing the 2018 Talent Quest!! Interested students have been asked to sign-up on the sheets provided in their classrooms by Friday, 26th October. Auditions will take place from Monday, 29th to Wednesday, 31st October in the Performing Arts Room at lunchtimes.
